Nesothrips brevicollis (Bagnall, 1914)
This species is widely distributed south of Honshu and is also known from Taiwan and China. The micropterae are usually obtained, but apterae and macropterae are rarely found. It is usually obtained from grasses such as Miscanthus sinensis, but it also lives on dead branches. It is very similar to N. minor, but can be distinguished by having short wing-retaining setae even in macropterae. These two species are distributed ectopically, but they coexist exceptionally in the Ogasawara Islands. Fungus-feeder.
